Once seen as a game played in dark rooms by seedy characters with cigar smoke lingering in the air and booze spilling to the floor, poker is now one of the most watched and played sports in the world. I call it a sport, because you've got big money, big skill, and huge egos at work here. It's got all the makings of a proper sport. A hobby is Euchre. Poker, at it's best, is much more.

And the stars of the gambling phenomenon are headed to Melbourne for the Australian Poker Championship today at Crown Casino. One of the top 10 tournaments in the world, the Aussie Millions, as it's known, will have an overall prize pool in the order of $5 million, with $1 million USD for the winner.
