WPT website to go live despite legal concerns

The company which runs the World Poker Tour TV show has taken a calculated gamble by opening a new poker web site, but because of US legal issues the American company has decided to refuse American customers.

At this point, politicians have not clarified or updated the law which was written prior to the invention of the Internet. This means that profits from the multi-billion dollar industry flow overseas and remain untaxed.

So far the Department of Justice has declined to bring any cases against online poker players in the US, but has said that the World Poker Tour may be breaking the law by owning the site, even if the patrons are not American.
