New $50k buy-in event at WSOP 2006
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) will have an event this year with a buy-in fee of more than $10,000. This is the first time an event at the WSOP has exceeded this size. The 2006 WSOP will feature a $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. poker tournament. H.O.R.S.E. is considered by many top players to be the truest test of poker skill, with five unique games and skill sets being tested at the felt.
As the acronym hints, H.O.R.S.E. is comprised of Texas Hold 'em, Omaha Hi-Lo (or better), Razz, Seven-Card Stud, and Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo (the ?E" stands for 8 or better in the high-low Seven-Card Stud game), which are played in alternating order. All games in H.O.R.S.E. are played at fixed limits, with the blinds/limits rising and the game type changing according to a preset time schedule.
Harrah's seems to be listening to the sentiments of many poker players by staging this event. Players feel that success in one poker discipline is not enough to qualify a player as the overall champion of poker.
